Sapa O'Chau School for Pacific Song Competition Entry – Vietnam

Sho, Si & Sai are all part of an ethnic minority in Vietnam called the H’mong people. All 3 of them come from a small village called Lao Chai located in the mountains of north Vietnam. They all study at a school called Sapa O’Chau where they go to learn English and have greater opportunities outside of their village.
This song is a traditional H’mong song called ‘Peb noj peb caug log zem’ which in English means ‘Happy Spring Festival’. The song expresses the beauty of H’mong villages in Spring praising traditional H’mong culture and customs as well as their people’s solidarity and love.
Spring festivals are joyous occasions where young boys and girls have the opportunity to meet each other and find love.
